Music Q2 2015

Here is the first quarter list, and here are notable albums from April, May and June listed in order of acquisition as recorded here.  UPDATE:  I did this whole post then stupid WordPress ate it and although I had been saving it, none of the revisions are there. So, sincerely fuck you WordPress.

I wrote some stuff for some of them but can’t really be bothered to do it all again so … anyhow it’s all great music.

Rose of Roscrae – Tom Russell    I am working on a fairly lengthy write up of this, hopefully coming soon!

Second Hand Heart – Dwight Yoakam   His best since Population Me.

Sound and Color Alabama Shakes   Aw yeah.

The Ruffian’s Misfortune – Ray Wylie Hubbard    Shout out to my sister in Arizona who saw Ray Wylie on my urging and sent me an official stubbie holder!

Voyageurs – Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys

Saved and Sanctified : Songs of the Jade Label – Various (Reissue)  Very rough and ready backyard gospel crate digging set.

No video :-(  Buy it here.

The Traveling Kind – Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell

I Wanna Sing Right: Rediscovering Lomax in Evangeline County – Various  Read about it here.

Get Ready – The Revelers  SWAMP POP

Sonic Ranch – Whitey Morgan and the 78s

El Mutakallimûn – Saoud Massi Thanks to Bernard Zuel’s blog for putting me on to Saoud.

Alone (Ténéré) – Terakaft

This Time for Real – Otis Clay and Billy Price

EP  – Fantastic Negrito

Sundown Over Ghostown – Eilen Jewell

Next Stop Soweto 4: Zulu Rock, Afro-Disco & Mbaqanga 1975-85 – Various

High on Tulsa Heat – John Moreland

Little Neon Light – Houndmouth

Algiers – Algiers

Americano Groove – Los Texmaniacs

Don’t Think I’ve Forgotten: Cambodia’s Lost Rock and Roll – Various  As long as they keep releasing comps of pre-Khmer Rouge Cambodian rock and pop I will keep buying them.

Hi Honey – Low Cut Connie

Sea of Sand/Stuck in the South/Howlin’ Shame – Adia Victoria

Terre Rouge – Vishtèn

Medicine – Drew Holcomb and the Neighbors

Just a Mortal Man – Jerry Lawson  I’d never heard of Jerry lawson but I heard him on Otis Gibbs’s podcast and he was so entertaining I went and got the album and really love it.  For those who dug Solomon Burke’s comeback records, it won’t disappoint.

House of David – Lea DeLaria  Lea is known as Big Boo from Orange is the New Black

but she also sings jazz, in this case an album of Bowie covers.

Larry Campbell and Teresa Williams – self-titled
