I consider myself very fortunate to have seen Bo Diddley live last year at the Basement. He was clearly a bit frail, seated the whole time but still had the licks and was backed by a really good, mostly female band. A few weeks after that he had a serious stroke and I don't think performed publically again.

Lots of YouTube goodness to choose from. Let's try this one:

And a New York Times slideshow.

And a Stones cover:

Hi Amanda,

So sad. I saw Bo open the Sydney Opera House in 1973. Well, he played on a pontoon in Farm Cove whilst little queenie was in the house on the other side of the cove.

Memory is a little hazy but I think Finch were one of the local bands on the bill.

Lucky lass and lad.

I wish I had a chance to see Bo Diddley. I'm sure the first time I heard that Bo Diddley rhythm was a George Thorogood album but I had to find the source. One of my all time favourites and an influence you can never escape. His beat is all around.

I saw him at the Rising Sun Hotel in Bendigo in about 1983 - it was a really great night.
